Celebrity Blog. The Other Side Of the Coin.

Celebrity blog…..celebrity blog…….celebrity blog.

Forgive me for being a little obsessive but the celebrity blog is definitely one of the most popular types of internet site.

Many of them are written by PR personal but what we have now is a growing trend for the celebrity blog to be written by the celebrity themselves. However, we still have the vast majority of celebrity blogs being created by fans or by the professional ‘celebrity news gossip’ writers who make a living out of keeping us informed and amused.

The gossip blogs certainly were the first on the scene. Much of what they reported was rumour and sometimes just simply lies to create a sensation. And in response to these celebrity gossip sites emerged the ‘celebrity-created’ blog.

The celebrity decided enough was enough and decided to present their side of the story. By doing this, of course, they could take some control over the information about them that was being spread around the net. We all got to see the other side of the coin at last.

No surprise, of course, since the popular press and tabloids has an established expertise in this kind of journalism. And of the course the interested public all love to read the sometimes salacious activities of the rich, famous and infamous.

Interest in the celebrity has now reached a manic level. Many a celebrity now needs to take sometimes extreme precautions to maintain a decent level of privacy. Their private lives are often laid bare for all and sundry to consider. Is that the price of being a celebrity perhaps?

Sports personalities can also be the target of the celebrity blog.

Many sports people now aspire to be celebrities and often move into the world of acting for stage and screen. And the celebrity blog with a sporting bias can often divulge details of a person’s love relationships and rumours about drugs or some other illegal activity.

Politicians too can also find themselves in the celebrity blog limelight. Not many political animals are without blemish and the celebrity blogger can often manages to reveal a ripe boil or two. An embarrassing post can appear and soon virally whizz around the webasphere at the speed of light.

So it came as no surprise that the celebrity-created blog was born.

They used it to refute and counteract the constant flow of unfounded gossip and rumour. And blogging has certainly helped the celebrity to gain exposure and to ‘sell’ their message and be branded in a way that they find suitable.

Has the celebrity blog run its course?

Many complain that the celebrity blog has had a detrimental effect upon the general tone of the blogging world. Do we really need to know the private lives of some our fellow citizens simply because they are particularly talented or gifted in some way?  Celebrity bloggers who pry into the lives of the celebrities may be the flavour of the moment but do they divert our attention away from the more important news issues?

Or do we take the celebrity blog far too seriously.  Perhaps we should relegate it to a position just below the status of the comic strip.
